Flower Arrangement and Planter Care

At The Cutting Garden, we consider the value and our collective environmental footprint in everything we do.

The Cutting Garden Flower Care

Flower Arrangements

All of our arrangements are flower foam free and we compost all of our plant waste. We try to pick our blooms and seasonal greens the day before delivering or installing to ensure freshest arrangements and longest enjoyment for our clients.

Included in all arrangements are these flower care tips:

  • Trim stems before placing in water and vase.

  • Replenish water frequently.

  • Change out water every 2 days to prolong floral life.

  • Keep your blooms cool and out of direct sunlight.

Containers

Beautiful, long lasting containers require following some important steps. In our Zone 6A, we have 4 distinct container seasons. Our process at TCG is as follows:

  • Remove last years potting soil when starting in the spring. There is no nutrition left in the old soil.

  • Check to make sure there is clear, unclogged drainage

  • If the container is large, install a false bottom; a great use for those plastic containers that your plant stock arrives in.

  • Use best quality potting soil, organic if possible. We always do.

  • Amend with organic fertilizer and a slow release product as well.

  • Know your sun factor and purchase plants accordingly. Full sun is 6 hours a day!

  • Use best quality nursery stock from local premium nurseries, we always do. Big box store plants might seem less expensive, but their quality won’t go the distance.

  • Deadhead spent blooms and pinch gangly stalks.

  • Stay on top of moisture. Best way to check is to stick your finger in the soil daily. Planters should ALMOST dry out between waters. Sometimes irrigation systems don’t get it quite right.
